Today we had Paul Butler deliver his talk on the three important things in his life.

1st        Paul’s last name wasn’t Butler when he was born.  When he was young, his mother divorced his biological father and, later, married such a good man that Paul was happy to take his new dad’s last name as his own.  His new dad was a very positive influence on his life.

2nd       He happened to meet a Navy recruiter in a mall while Paul was a student at Arizona State.  The recruiter said they would teach him how to fly jets, and they did.  Paul said that it was a wonderful experience and that he couldn’t believe that he was having so much fun flying  and getting paid for it.

3rd        A chance get-together with friends led to his meeting Mary Beth while at Arizona State.  And, “Boy, could she dance!”  The rest is history, one that Paul said has been great.

Next we had a wonderful talk by Jeff Blanton about mobilizing leaders to transform business community. He is the founder and CEO of The Blanton Group, an organization dedicated to helping leaders transform purpose into possibility. Known as “The Purpose Guy”, Jeff is a highly sought-after speaker, author, and leadership guide who assists business leaders to make the shift from success to significance. Prior to founding The Blanton Group, Jeff spent more than 30 years successfully leading large strategic change initiatives for organizations of all sizes, from well-funded start-ups to Fortune 100 companies. He is also involved with multiple local nonprofits and social enterprises focused on effecting positive change in his community. Blanton resides in San Diego, California, “America’s Finest City”, where he does his part to make that slogan a reality. A fun fact about Jeff is that he has been a competitive sailboat racer for his entire life.

Jeff asked those in attendance, "Who of you can truly say you know your purpose?"  He followed that question with his personal progress from not knowing even the question early in his career to, at the age of 60, knowing his true purpose of helping others to "mobilize possibilities."

Today, as a speaker and facilitator, he helps business leaders identify all of their possibilities and then mobilize them into action through helping them become "purpose guided and vision driven."  He calls his process "jailbreak leadership" for identifying a person's personal purpose to help him or her see the possibilities in their lives, to look beyond the constraints of their particular jails, and to go for it!

At the end of the talk, Jeff answered a number of questions and said that he offers a complimentary 30-minute phone call for leaders who are interested in his Jailbreak Leadership program.

In the end DMSB Club President Ken Barrett presented the speaker with the Joshua certificate that represents our club DMSB donating school supplies to schools in Malawi in the name of the speaker.
