Dr. James Veltmeyer is the Chief of Family Medicine at the prestigious Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, CA. He has been voted San Diego's "Top Doctor" in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2017. He experienced first hand the challenges patients face in getting good healthcare, including with his own wife who has been battling breast cancer.

As Dr. Veltmeyer shared, a majority of his time is spent in making sure the medical care procedures he recommends for his patients are compliant with insurance coverages and have the proper medical codes (there are over 65,000 of them). It's common to have his recommendations questioned or denied, resulting in serious delays to getting the proper care.

He has developed a new approach to health care reform that provides "Health care by the people, for the people". It offers a realistic path to reducing costs of health care through a three-part approach:
  1. A Medical Association Membership (MAM) for routine and preventative care. This provides patients access to doctors for a low monthly fee of $50-$100 per patient.
  2. Emergency Catastrophic Care (ECC) for life-threatening health events, emergencies and accidents. This would cover up to 2 weeks of hospitalization or ICU care.
  3. National Health Savings Accounts (NHSA) to cover costs of pre-existing conditions, specialists and longer-term hospital care.
