Tuna Fishing From Around the World
Sep. 30, 2021
Our pseaker thie Friday is a very special frined of our club. the proud son of our very own, George Sousa . It will be lnteresting to hear about Jim's role in catching tuna fish around.the world. As you open a can of tuna tolday lmake sure to lthink bout where this fish was caught and whose fishing pole caught it.nd is now your favorite lunch. A short meaaged from Jim My name is Jim Sousa and I am the 4th generation of my family involved in the tuna industry. My dad, George Sousa, is a loyal, ember of your Rotary Club. I am currently the Director of GS Fisheries Inc., a company that owns two large scale tuna purse seiners in partnership with the Dutch company Cornelis Vrolijk, that operate in the Pacific Ocean. I am also President of the American Tunaboat Association, President of the US Pacific Tuna Fisheries Improvement Project for the US tuna fleet, and vice chair on the General Advisory Committee to the US Government for tuna conservation in the Pacific Ocean Region. My love for this business started as a child, but I loved the land aspect of the business much more than the idea of going to sea. I have a BBA from the University of San Diego and have spent the last 34 years involved in this global business. See you Friday in person at 7:00 at the Del Mar Hlton or on zoom at 7:15 https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89606505378?pwd=bUg4VXRueU5YY0RtZy9IdEU4Rms5Zz09 Either in person or via zoom, it is going to be a great time. All the best,
Beverly
